چکیده

The identi"cation of the dynamic characteristics of linear systems is now widely used and interest in non-linear systems has increased. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the performance of the restoring force surface method as far as the identi"cation of non-linear systems is concerned. The vibrations of a clamped beam are investigated for two di!erent kinds of non-linearity. Firstly, the beam shows a non-linear behaviour characterized by a piecewise linear sti!ness and secondly, the non-linearity comes from a bilinear sti!ness. Both numerical and experimental results are presented. 2001 Academic Press

System identification of a beam with frictional contact

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be  applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

A Theoretical and Experimental Study of Failure Maps of Sandwich Beams with Composite Skins and Honeycomb Core

Failure maps of sandwich panels such as beam, plate and shell are of great importance in designing such structures. In this paper, failure maps of sandwich beams with composite skin and honeycomb core are obtained. The effect of transverse shear in skins and core and the effect of double walls of honeycomb core have been taken into account. Shear deformation of skins and core are assumed to be ...

Experimental and finite-element free vibration analysis and artificial neural network based on multi-crack diagnosis of non-uniform cross-section beam

Crack identification is a very important issue in mechanical systems, because it is a damage that if develops may cause catastrophic failure. In the first part of this research, modal analysis of a multi-cracked variable cross-section beam is done using finite element method. Then, the obtained results are validated usingthe results of experimental modal analysis tests. In the next part, a nove...

Measuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry

Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...

Delamination of Two-Dimensional Functionally Graded Multilayered Non-Linear Elastic Beam - an Analytical Approach

Delamination fracture of a two-dimensional functionally graded multilayered four-point bending beam that exhibits non-linear behaviour of the material is analyzed. The fracture is studied analytically in terms of the strain energy release rate. The beam under consideration has an arbitrary number of layers. Each layer has individual thickness and material properties. A delamination crack is loc...
